The burden of neurological disorders is rapidly increasing in India, due to the rapid demographic transition and is posing a challenge to sustainability of health systems. As per the Global Burden of Disease (India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative Neurological Disorders, 2021) study, the major leading individual neurological causes of deaths are stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s diseases and other dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and communicable diseases.
Likewise, the major leading individual neurological causes of disability (DALYs) are stroke, headache, epilepsy, communicable disorders, Alzheimer’s diseases and other dementias and cerebral palsy (India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative Neurological Disorders, 2021).
